AI writing tools can produce a draft in a matter of seconds. But how much work remains before your team can use it?
In an IMDA pulse survey conducted in May and June 2025, 54% of surveyed AI users said they used it for writing and editing. The survey covered about 320 working individuals, offering an overview of how AI is being adapted into everyday work.
For marketing teams, making AI usage productive takes more than generating text. A polished draft still needs to explain the product or service accurately, address the customer’s concerns, and sound like the brand. The time spent checking and revising it matters too.
This guide walks through a usable workflow for briefing, drafting, reviewing, and adapting AI-assisted copy, and then assessing whether the process is helping your team.
Before asking AI to write, decide what the copy needs to achieve. IMDA’s GenAI Playbook for Enterprises recommends specifying the purpose, length, and key points, alongside context, audience, and style. For copywriting, turn those inputs into a short brief grounded in verified product or service information.
Here’s an example brief for a business software provider:
Aside from a structured brief, remember to also:
After the brief is ready, tell AI how to organise the message. The frequently used AIDA (Attention, Interest, Desire, and Action) framework offers a starting point. Use it as a writing aid, not a guarantee of conversions.
For our software provider example, the instruction could be:
Using the brief, draft a landing-page introduction following AIDA. Open with the difficulty of tracking enquiries across spreadsheets, connect the supplied features to that problem, and end with an invitation to book a demonstration.
An illustrative first draft might read:
Turn Every Enquiry into an Opportunity
Managing customer enquiries across spreadsheets? Our powerful software brings everything together, helping your team work smarter. Store enquiries in one place, assign follow-up tasks, and track their status. Never miss another opportunity. Book a demonstration today.
For a longer page, ask AI to propose headings around customer questions, such as “How does enquiry tracking work?” Supply keywords from verified research and use them naturally. Google’s SEO guidance supports clear organisation, descriptive headings, and language readers use to search. AI-generated headings alone do not establish search demand.
Check the draft against three requirements:
Singapore’s Institute of Digital Government offers a useful review question in its June 2026 guidance: “Would I be comfortable standing behind this output?”
In our example, “powerful software” and “work smarter” add little detail. “Never miss another opportunity” promises an unsupported outcome. A more specific version would be:
Keep Customer Enquiries and Follow-ups in One Place
Tracking enquiries across spreadsheets? Bring them together in one place, assign follow-up tasks, and see their status. Give your team a shared view of what needs attention. Book a demonstration to explore how the software could fit your enquiry process.
The revision connects features to a practical benefit and removes the absolute promise. Ask AI for targeted edits, and then check that they preserve meaning. A person familiar with the product or service should approve the copy.
AI Roles and Human Checks Across the Workflow
Writing Stage | AI Role | Human Check |
|---|---|---|
Brief | Organise supplied information. | Confirm facts and objective. |
Draft | Suggest structure and wording. | Check relevance and claims. |
Review | Offer targeted revisions. | Approve meaning and voice. |
Adapt | Produce channel or language variants. | Check suitability and consistency. |
Measure | Summarise supplied results. | Validate data and conclusions. |
Use the reviewed copy as the starting point. Then, clearly indicate the audience, channel, language, and details that must stay unchanged.
In the enquiry management software provider example, a social post could introduce the problem: “Still tracking customer enquiries across spreadsheets? Keep enquiries, follow-up tasks, and their status in one shared workspace.”
An email to a prospect who has already expressed interest could move the conversation forward: “Get a demonstration of how your team can record enquiries and assign follow-up tasks in one place.”
The emphasis changes with what the reader already knows and the next step you want them to take. The product facts stay consistent.
Consider the need for a Bahasa Melayu version of copy created aimed at Malaysian businesses. For this, AI will need to retain product names and follow an approved terminology list.
Have a proficient local-language reviewer check:
Translating the draft back into English can help identify discrepancies, but should not replace that review. Store approved versions in one place, so your team can update all related copies when product details change.
Compare similar tasks with and without AI assistance, using the same quality requirements. Record:
This shows where copywriting automation helps and where it creates extra work.
Faster production does not establish that copy is more effective. A simple test is having two approved headlines while keeping the offering, page content, and call to action consistent.
Decide what to measure, such as completed demo bookings, and use a randomised A/B test where feasible. Also, agree with the person managing the test how long it should run and how many participants it needs. A handful of clicks or bookings is not enough to declare a winner.

Start with one recurring task. Prepare the brief, review the draft, and record the effort needed to reach the approved copy. Refine the process before applying it more widely.
